How to Calculate Percent Difference

Percent difference compares two values relative to their average. Unlike percent change, neither value is treated as the reference.

Percent Difference = |V1 − V2| / ((|V1| + |V2|) / 2) × 100

For example, comparing 80 and 120:

|80 − 120| / ((80 + 120) / 2) × 100 = 40 / 100 × 100 = 40%

Example

What is the percent difference between 50 and 70?

|50 − 70| / 60 × 100 = 33.33%
