How to Calculate Percent Error

Percent error measures how far a measured value is from the actual (accepted) value.

Percent Error = |Measured − Actual| / |Actual| × 100

For example, if the actual value is 50 and you measured 48:

|48 − 50| / 50 × 100 = 4%

Example

Measured value: 9.5, Actual value: 10. What is the percent error?

|9.5 − 10| / 10 × 100 = 5%
