How to Calculate Percent Yield

Percent yield is used in chemistry to compare the actual amount of product obtained to the theoretical maximum.

Percent Yield = (Actual Yield / Theoretical Yield) × 100

For example, if the theoretical yield is 50 g and you obtained 42 g:

(42 / 50) × 100 = 84%

Example

Actual yield: 18 g, Theoretical yield: 20 g

(18 / 20) × 100 = 90%
