Work Time Calculator

Calculate the net hours worked in a single shift. Enter a start time, end time, and any unpaid break — the Work Time Calculator returns hours and minutes worked, the decimal equivalent, and optional gross pay based on your hourly rate.

How to Calculate Work Time

Step 1: Record your start time and end time for the shift.

Step 2: Enter the length of any unpaid break in minutes (e.g. 30 for a half-hour lunch).

Step 3: Net Time = (End Time − Start Time) − Break Duration.

Step 4: To find gross pay, multiply net decimal hours by your hourly rate.

If your shift crosses midnight (e.g. 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM), the calculator adds 24 hours to the end time before subtracting.

• Example: 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM with a 45-minute break = 7 h 45 m = 7.75 decimal hours.

Formula

Net Time = (End Time − Start Time) − Break Duration Gross Pay = Net Hours × Hourly Rate

Example:

9:00 AM → 5:30 PM with 30 min break: 8.5 h − 0.5 h = 8.00 h × $20 = $160.00
